Not long ago, Roger MArtinez, a friend from Taos posted this on Facebook, and I really liked it. That’s him on his bike, he borrowed the words, then he added some of his own.
My room told me: the Bible said, "read me". the camera said, "focus", the guitar said, "stay in tune", the sword said, "stay sharp," the paper towels said, "clean your mess," The chair said, "be supportive", the light bulb said, "be bright and share your light," the knick-knacks said, "be curious", the paintings said, "be creative", the bike said, "enjoy your freedoms", the fishing rod said, "take a day off", the pillow said, "get some rest, and dream big," the altar said, "be faithful.
I loved it all, because it strikes at my goal for Unconventional—to see God whispers in the mundane but wise aspects of life. That matches Romans 14:23, that all we do should link to our faith. Our daily lives, how we drive, our politics, our job. And, to avoid needless controversy, we each will do that in different expressions.
Kick Starting the Application
Try to copy Roger’s example. Pick a room in your house, what can the objects there teach you? Drive through the woods or hills or countryside, do the same. Take a look at a person—once more. Then, what have you learned about following God from this exercise? I would love to hear that, so please share it on FB or the blog here.
